Because they don’t fit kids anymore, because they are worn out or because they are old-fashioned, t-shirts become an excellent raw material. Here are several brilliant ideas for reusing them.
A Reusable Bag
Having a reusable bag is good; creating one by reusing an old t-shirt is better! Cut out the collar and sleeves and sew the bottom of a thick, good quality t-shirt to have your own. We bet that no one else will have a bag as exclusive as yours!
A Children’s Apron
Take a tunic type t-shirt and follow these steps:
- Cut as large a rectangle as possible in the front, excluding the sleeves and collar.
- Raise the bottom of your rectangle about 4 inches.
- Sew your fold vertically to make pockets.
- Cut the back of your t-shirt into six vertical stripes.
- Sew your strips together, then onto your rectangle. They will become the belt.
You have many pictures of your children in these clothes that they have worn and loved, so maybe these are of particular value to you. Instead of making them pile up in the back of a cabinet, cut them into several squares of the same size and make a quilt. To finish your piece, sew it on the back of one of her flannel baby blankets.
Cut cotton strips and braid them to have bracelets of all colors.
Cover Old Bracelets
You can also use the strips to cover old bracelets that you no longer like and give them a second life.
T-Shirts without Sides
A t-shirt that doesn’t fit you well anymore because it’s too tight can be reused if you cut the sides off under the sleeves, tie the bottom at each side and wear it over a camisole.
Tace a shape on your freshly ironed t-shirt and cut it out with an X-Acto knife. You will get a nice summer t-shirt that can be worn over a colored tank top when the weather is cooler.
If you have a dog, you can also braid cotton tabs and tie both ends together with other accounts to make a great chew toy for your dog or a friend’s.
A square cardboard box and a t-shirt are enough to create a little house for your cat! Thread the t-shirt onto the box, matching the head’s opening with the opening in the box. At the back, fold the surpluses and staple them on the bottom of the box. Then fold the sleeves inward. What you’ve got to do is decorate the kitty house … and put it inside!
A T-Shirt with a Personalized Design
If you don’t dare to cut, sew, or make complex modifications to your t-shirt, this is an exciting alternative for you. All you’ll need is a bleach pen and a little creativity. Draw, write something you like on your t-shirt with your gel pen. After standing for a few minutes, all you have to do is rinse the t-shirt in cold water and let it dry.
